Volunteer at The Straz

Volunteers serve in a number of capacities and are critical to the successful operation of the Straz Center.  Financially, our dedicated volunteers save the Center more than $500,000 annually through their contribution of time!

At the Center, we try to offer a variety of opportunities to fit the skills and interests of our volunteers.  Currently, we are looking for volunteers in the following areas:

Ushers – Our usher team greets our patrons, provides information, directs our guests to their seats, and ensures their safety and comfort.  Ushers are required to stand for extended periods of time and be able to tolerate heights (i.e. work the highest level in Carol Morsani Hall).

Donor Lounge Hosts – Lounge hosts welcome individuals and corporate donors to our member lounges prior to performances and during intermission.  Hosts also provide information on upcoming events, including member “on sale” dates.

Retail Volunteers – Retail volunteers assist in all aspects of retail operation.  Customer service, store merchandising and cleaning, and pricing new merchandise are some of the duties for this corps of highly-visible volunteers.  These volunteers also offer directions, answer questions, and provide information about the music, theater, education programs, and other activities at the Center.

Administrative – Assist on various projects or tasks on an “as needed” basis.  Tasks include filing, data entry, creating or maintaining spreadsheets, mailings, photocopying and collating, etc.

Patel Conservatory – Conservatory volunteers serve in a number of capacities and are critical to the successful operation of the Patel Conservatory. Currently, we are looking for volunteers in the following areas. CLASSROOM HELPERS: Escort students to and from class; assist in classroom with any special needs; assist instructor during showcases and open classrooms. ADMINISTRATION & MARKETING: Help out in many different departments; check-in table for different events or program interviews; basic filing, copying, answering phones, data entry; assist with folding programs or other marketing collateral; marketing tables at Patel Conservatory and Straz Center shows. BACKSTAGE: Assist with check-in/check-out process; assigned to a specific group of students; help in dressing rooms; escort to and from stage; production needs.
