Did you know the Straz Center’s Patel Conservatory is the only accredited performing arts school in Florida? Our students have gone on to perform on Broadway, for internationally renowned and nationally esteemed ballet companies and for shows like The Voice
. An even greater number have just had fun, grown strong in character and empathy, better understood themselves and enjoyed the singular experience of being loved and supported by a huge performing arts family. We’re so proud of our staff, our shows, and our community outreach at the Conservatory, and we would really like to have you pitch in for these kids and for the success of the school if you want to get involved.
There are lots of opportunities, too. Check these out, and if any interest you, contact us today!
You serve as the point person for a class or classes, so you attend monthly volunteer meetings to stay informed. Your main job is to encourage parents, families and students to volunteer.
We have lots of shows for our music, dance and theater programs. You’ll assist young performers backstage and in the dressing rooms with costumes, hair and make-up. You’ll also escort performers to/from stage wings and photo sessions. This is a great job for adults who are good at keeping a cool head in kid chaos and enjoy being a smiling face in the wings and in the halls.
Good with sewing or would you like to learn? Then join us in the costume shop, where you’ll always have satiny, sparkling, interesting and unusual garments that need steaming, repairs, alterations and ironing among other things. Come fulfill your haberdashery dreams!
Calling all carpenters, painters, artists, and people who are interested in these things! Our shows need scenery and props, which means that we need you. You don’t have to have any experience to get on the volunteer roster in our scene shop because you will learn on the job. Paint, build and repair scenery for musicals and dance productions plus collect or construct props as needed. And, you’ll get to see your handiwork doing its thing when you come to the performances — in a sense, you get to be on stage without having to memorize any lines.
Cast Parties / After-Parties
In the performing arts, we like to celebrate a job well done with everyone involved. If putting together a great party sound like fun to you, then please know we need your help pulling off cast parties and after parties for our performances throughout the year. We go the whole nine: planning, set-up, decorations, activities, clean-up ... if you have a creative, fun spirit and like to throw a gathering, we want to hear from you to be a party volunteer.
PLEASE NOTE: For security purposes, we can’t accept anyone under the age of 18 as a volunteer. You will need to complete a criminal background check before you can volunteer — but no sweat, we will pay for it.
