About the Show
By following Miles Davis’ musical development in linear chronology, The Miles Davis Experience tells the story of post-war America, the challenges and optimism, the civil rights struggle, the historical milestones, and the creative cauldron of new music Davis pioneered and nurtured.
The musicians are drawn from the best of the young jazz lions, the up-and-coming talents and graduates of the country’s best music programs, hungry for exposure to a broader audience. Musicians respectfully stick to the music as originally presented by Davis and his supporting ensembles.
The band stays close to the original recordings sound and feel, drawing from the most noted and accessible Miles Davis tracks starting from the 1949 recordings, through his Blue Note years, culminating to his masterpiece and commercial breakout Kind of Blue. The poet drives the narrative in the style of the period, drawing from the noted poets of the time and writers that influenced Miles Davis. Historical pictures are used as integral backdrops from street scenes, live club and studio shoots, civil rights and historical photos.
